South Carolina CACs See a 4% Increase in Service Numbers

In 2023, Children’s Advocacy Centers in South Carolina provided services to 13,143 children. This represents a 4% increase over children served in 2022. To better understand these numbers, it helps to look back several years to when reliable statewide service numbers for Children’s Advocacy Centers became available. In 2009, South Carolina Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs) provided services for 6,386 children and the 13,143 children served in 2023 represent a 106% increase since 2009. 12th Annual Children’s Advocacy Center Day Press Conference

April is Child Abuse Prevention month and April 4th, 2023 was Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) Day in South Carolina. Hundreds of professionals and CAC supporters joined Attorney General Alan Wilson, the South Carolina Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers (SCNCAC), Children’s Trust of South Carolina, and members of the General Assembly for the 12th Annual Children’s Advocacy Center Day both in person and via livestream from the South Carolina State Capitol. Dorchester CAC Holds Ribbon Cutting

On March 23, 2023 the Dorchester Children’s Advocacy Center held a ribbon cutting for their newly renovated Summerville Center. The event was held jointly with a Chamber After Hours Event. The Children’s Advocacy Center thanked the HDR Foundation and Silent Tears Foundation for providing grants that paid for the bathroom renovations, and new furnishings. They also thanked the Summerville Rotary Club, the Summerville Evening Rotary Club, the Carolina Panthers Foundation, and the State Farm Good Neighbor Grant Program for their generous donations that helped to make this renovation a reality. Foothills Alliance Becomes First Light

On February 28th, 2023, our Children’s Advocacy Center in Anderson and Oconee Counties held a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the rebranding of First Light. First Light is a 501(c)3 nonprofit agency that encompasses three programs: Sexual Trauma Center, Child Advocacy Center, and Prevent Child Abuse. Foothills Alliance was formed when three agencies were merged in July 2001. Prior to the merger, the Sexual Trauma Center, known then as Foothills Rape Crisis Center (founded in 1989), operated for 11 years as an independent non-profit agency providing 24-hour crisis intervention services to residents of Anderson and…

The South Carolina Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers General Counsel, Candice Lively, testified before the Joint Citizens and Legislative Committee on Children during the committee’s fall hearing in Columbia on October 12, 2022. Lively spoke with the committee about forensic interviews of children and how the SCNCAC Forensic Interview Recording Evidence Management system protects these recordings and meets rules of discovery for court proceedings in child abuse cases.
